“In every well-governed state, wealth is a sacred thing, in democracies it is the only sacred thing.”
Penguin Island, by Anatole France, 1908
Sometimes I am quite astonished, how current old literature can be in a present situation …
In the end (the 8th book) the civilisation is advancing further and further technologically – but sadly it’s culture deteriorates and the society is dominated by few plutocrats, whose only goal it is to accumulate as much wealth as possible.
This system “built on humanities strongest pillars, conceit and greed” causes an insurrection of terrorist assassins, that cause incredible destruction with advanced explosives … This is resulting in not only the disappearance of the society, but also of it’s memory …
All that in 1908!
